A world of unreal contrasts. Next to nothing. Close to everything. This is arctic living.
Alta is closer than you think. Flying from Oslo to Alta takes just under two hours. Daily departures make it easy for people to get to and from Finnmark’s largest city. Both Norwegian and SAS operate between Oslo Airport (OSL) and Alta Airport (ALF). There are also several daily departures between Alta and Tromsø, and further connections to Hammerfest, Honningsvåg, Båtsfjord, Berlevåg, Vadsø and Kirkenes, among others.
Several times a week there is a bus between Tromsø and Alta. From December to the end of March, it is also possible to travel the Arctic route through Finland.
Alta is a hub that connects both E45 and E6. Europavei 6 takes you south to both Trondheim and Oslo, and also north-east to Kirkenes. Europavei 45 takes you to Kautokeino and connects you to the main roads to both Finland and Sweden.
