Summer nights are not something we sleep through. From May 17 to July 25, it stays light around the clock. The midnight sun brings energy — and the freedom to fill both days and nights with whatever you choose. A mountain hike in the middle of the night? Completely natural.

Alta offers experiences with deep roots. Here you will find, among other things, rock carvings listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, bearing witness to life here thousands of years ago. The Alta River is renowned among sport fishers around the world and has a long tradition of salmon fishing. The local Alta slate has also left its mark — both in the local community and far beyond Norway’s borders.

Did you know that the world’s first northern lights observatory was established here, on Mount Haldde? Today, it is a popular hiking destination with sweeping views across the landscape.
