Kautokeino, or Guovdageaidnu as it is called in Northern Sami, is located in the west of the Finnmarksvidda plateau, roughly halfway between Alta in the north, Karasjok in the east and the Finnish border in the south. And whether you want to explore the nature of northern Norway, find peace on the plateau or experience Sami culture and tradition, Kautokeino is the place.

There are also great opportunities here to see the northern lights, go birdwatching or try your luck at fishing – or you can drive a reindeer sled, test your skills on an ATV or join a snowmobile tour. Just remember to dress well! Kautokeino’s seasons are varied, and although summer can be nice and warm, King Winter tends to bring many degrees below zero – in fact, the temperature has crept down to below -50 degrees here.
