Alteidet House is a lodging house about an hour’s drive from Alta. Here, you are surrounded by alpine landscapes, nearby plateaus, fjords for whale watching and fishing, and a peaceful life.
We offer 10 rooms, including two spacious studios, an apartment for family and friends, and five double rooms with shared kitchen facilities. We have excellent meeting facilities, a large barbecue hut, a sauna, and a jacuzzi. Our group travelers can be served local and delicious food in our cozy living room or outside in the barbecue hut.
Alteidet House is the perfect starting point for adventures in the alpine landscape, fjords, plateaus, rivers, and waterfalls. Here, you can experience the northern lights and the midnight sun, go whale watching, snowmobiling, and just be a part of our Arctic nature.
While guests explore the beautiful nature around us, the hosts spend the summer gathering wild herbs and plants, and in the winter, we produce organic food for sale throughout Norway. Living close to nature is at the core of what we do, and we hope our guests experience the same.
Alteidet House started as a small school, but has grown into a cozy lodging house. Toril Kåven bought the place in 2015. She is Sami and grew up with the gathering culture and fishing tourists in Alta. Gerald van Gelder is a chef and daily host, with great enthusiasm for his six polar dogs. Toril’s 15-year-old daughter, Elen, is also active in the operation. We are all passionate about a nature-based lifestyle and small-scale business development, and together we take care of the property, welcome guests, and maintain the garden and food production.
Alteidet House also organizes meeting places for the locals, where we arrange cultural events in collaboration with local actors. We take care of our tri-cultural community, with Sami, Kven, and Norwegian presence.
