Slow Life – Winter Living with the Indigenous Sámi People is a four-day cultural immersion in Arctic Finnmark, within reach of Alta.

Far from roads and city lights, winter life unfolds in one of Europe’s last true Arctic wilderness areas. During your stay, you live alongside a Sámi reindeer-herding family whose daily rhythm follows the herd, the weather and the seasons.

This is not a fixed tourist program. Nature decides the pace.

You are not a spectator — you take part in daily winter life.

During your stay, you may:

• Travel by snowmobile into the tundra to locate the herd

• Check on the reindeer and assist with feeding when needed

• Learn about winter herd management and Sámi survival skills

• Practice basic lasso techniques

• Gather firewood and take part in simple winter tasks

• Share meals and stories inside a traditional lavvu

• Experience Northern Lights under dark Arctic skies

Evenings are spent around the fire, in silence or conversation, often accompanied by joik and cultural storytelling.

For many guests, this experience offers a rare sense of calm, clarity and deep connection to nature.
