Experience one of nature’s greatest spectacles on a Northern Lights Safari in Alta, one of the world’s best places to witness the Aurora Borealis. At Pæskatun, we’ve spent nearly 20 years helping guests experience the magic of the Arctic night, combining local expertise, flexibility, and genuine hospitality to create unforgettable evenings beneath the stars.

No two Northern Lights tours are ever the same. Before every safari, our experienced guides carefully review the latest aurora forecasts, weather forecasts, cloud cover, and local conditions to decide where the evening’s adventure should take us. Rather than following the same route every night, we adapt our journey to search for the clearest skies and maximize your chances of seeing the Northern Lights. While nature can never guarantee an aurora display, we always do everything we can to give you the best possible opportunity to experience this incredible phenomenon.

Your comfort is just as important as the hunt itself. We pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation in Alta, provide warm thermal suits, winter boots, hats, and mittens, and serve hot drinks, cake, snacks, and warm soup during the evening. Whenever conditions allow, we also gather around a campfire to enjoy the peaceful Arctic surroundings while waiting for the lights to appear.

Our knowledgeable local guides share the science, history, and legends behind the Northern Lights, helping you understand the phenomenon while making the evening both informative and enjoyable. They are also experienced photographers who take professional portraits of you beneath the Northern Lights whenever conditions allow. The best photos are included and sent to you after the tour, and if you’d like to capture the aurora yourself, they’re happy to help you get the most from your own camera.

Every Northern Lights hunt is unique. Some evenings the aurora appears quickly, while on others we need to travel farther or wait a little longer. Our tours typically last 4–5 hours, but our priority is always to create the best possible Northern Lights experience, adapting to the conditions whenever we can.
