Join a Sámi reindeer herding family during spring migration and follow the herd along
ancient Arctic routes. A rare, immersive multi-day experience rooted in living Indigenous tradition.

Join the Herd – Experience Spring Migration with Reindeer is one of the most extraordinary cultural experiences in Northern Europe.

Each spring, reindeer move from their winter pastures toward summer grazing areas — a journey that has shaped Sámi life for generations. As a guest, you are invited to travel alongside an Indigenous Sámi family and follow the herd through Arctic landscapes.

This is not a fixed-schedule tour. The reindeer set the pace. Some days involve movement across tundra and snow-covered terrain, while others are calm and quiet. The experience unfolds naturally, guided by weather, animals and tradition.

Guests will:

  • Travel alongside the reindeer herd
  • Learn about Sámi history, traditions and seasonal cycles
  • Participate in safe herding tasks
  • Sleep in a traditional Sámi lavvu
  • Share meals and daily life with a reindeer herding family

Accommodation is simple, off-grid and authentic. You stay in a traditional lavvu with warm sleeping bags and reindeer-hide mattresses. Camp moves as the herd moves.

All meals are included and prepared by the host family using traditional ingredients such as reindeer meat, Arctic fish and seasonal produce.

Pick-up and drop-off from Alta or nearby locations are included.

This experience is designed for guests seeking authenticity, depth and connection to nature.
Availability is very limited and groups are intentionally small
