Alta, the Northern Light City, is situated far inside the Altafjord where it is well protected from rough weather, and only 10 minutes away from the city center you will find Holmen Husky Lodge. From here we take you on amazing dog sledding adventures through a winter wonderland with our Alaskan Husky’s. Gently and agile your team of dogs will take you on a trip full of sun, snow and cold, and all of this while you enjoy comfortably from your sled. Holmen Husky started in 1996 by the owner Eirik Nilsen. Eirik is an experienced musher, and has completed several big races. He has entered the Finnmarkrace, which is Europes longest dog sledding race, 14 times. He has won the 8-team class 3 times, and has several 2nd and 3rd places. Eirik has a burning passion for dog sledding, and in fact he already started in 1982 with his first dogs. In the beginning it was a hobby, like it is for many others, with a normal job and family on the sideline. But Eirik has alway had a big interest in sharing the dog sledding world with others, so in 1987 he moved to Alta with his 12 Alaskan Husky’s, so he could try and fulfil his dreams. Today Holmen Husky has grown into a home for approximately 80 husky’s of all sizes, and there is even a cat and dog hotel, which is used by people whom are going on vacation. Working together with Eirik, you will find the daily manager Mia Willman, and three full-time dog handlers. But even that is not enough to keep the place running. Many people volunteer with training the dogs for the season and prepare them for the big races. Because even though Eirik has done a lot of racing, his burning passion for racing has not faded.
